This project aims to create new communities and evolve a park to reflect emerging futures.​
I’m in my third year of the RIBA Studio’s Diploma (part 2) course, studying alongside working full-time for Whittam Cox in the London Studio. The RIBA Studio is a unique system of practice-based study, in which academic work is supported by learning through experience in the office, with the theoretical syllabus sequence mirroring the development and realisation of design projects in architectural practice. The RIBA Studio is unusual in that it starts in March, so I am only partway through my final year, so any comments and suggestions are welcome. Currently, in the Studio I’m working on Colne Quay, a riverside student accommodation scheme in Colchester. Architecturally I’m interested in the production of public spaces, aiming to create inclusive and sustainable environments that encourage human interactions. Academically I’ve been enjoying exploring alternative practices of architectural drawing, imaging, and representation.

In the depths of South London, Crystal Palace Park has found itself at the forefront of societal progression at several key moments. It’s the home of The Crystal Palace, an icon of the Industrial Revolution, and later, the National Sports Centre that emerged from the socialist ideals of post-war Britain. The park holds memories of these periods in the decaying structures and buildings that are scattered across it. This project is looking to find a new community-focused function for the existing form of the existing swimming pools that now sit empty post-covid, and to explore the next evolution of the park to head towards a Symbiocene future.
