I am currently in the second year of my Architecture masters apprenticeship at Sheffield Hallam University. My interests include the potential of retrofits as opposed to demolition and rebuilding and the sustainable benefits these can have. I am also very interested in the urban planning of public spaces and how performances are encouraged by design.

The issue of carbon production caused by the operation of general housing is an extremely important and relevant issue in today's climate targets. The government has placed a review of plans on how the country will employ strategies
to meet zero emissions by 2050. This undertaking of national-scale retrofit and refurbishments will require a substantial increase in employability options in the construction industry. The Retrofit Institute provides education for young people hoping to join the efforts in refurbishing homes to meet Passivhaus standards and help to insulate Britain. The
building itself will act as a metaphor for the potential of retrofits, using facades which can be altered and adapted at different points in the year. The institute will hold exhibitions of students' work for local residents to observe and gain an understanding of the importance of the retrofit of their homes.
