Temporary Structures - Fitzalan Square

My fourth year project at university was based around ‘temporary structures’ that were linked to affiliate organisations from the university. The aim of the project was to increase public participation with the
organisation whilst strengthening the communities ties to each other and the university structure.

My project, linked with the ‘Lab4Living’ group, was based around getting the local community involved within constructing these temporary structures.

The central pavilion space (made out of reclaimed timber) would act as the one constant as the project progressed, teaching people basic construction skills without the need for power tools or more advanced training.

They could then apply the skills learned around the site, creating simple scaffolding structures to positively change there local area. This idea can then be spread to further affected areas that need regeneration, allowing everyone to get involved in the construction process, and develope their local areas as required for them, and ultimately by them.
