Doncaster Mycelium Research Lab and Fashion School
Fast fashion contributes significantly to the climate emergency. The extensive use of plastic-based fabrics and the carbon needed to upkeep the supply and demand of ever-changing trends. In response, this project explores sustainable alternatives, focusing on the use of mycelium-based fabrics.

Mycelium, the root structure of fungi, allows for the production, creation and recycling of garments in one place, reducing the environmental impact of textile production.
The aim of the project it to look into the future, to be adaptable and resilient to changes in technology and demand. The scheme’s expansion is phased through the initial retrofit of
the archive and then the expansion of the fashion school.
While the retrofit provides a permanent solution for increasing thermal comfort in the archive, the fashion studios provide a demountable structure that can be adapted to future needs.
